What is Cancer?

- Cells are basic units of life and all living beings are made of these cells. Number of these cells gets organized to form tissues which carry out specific functions which in turn form organs like skin, liver, lung and kidney.
- Normally cells divide, multiply and grow in a controlled manner. But when this control mechanism fails, cells starts multiplying in uncontrolled manner and growth of cells occurs.
- Cancer can arise in any organ of the body like lung, breast, liver, kidney, brain etc.
- Cancer is a single disease condition that consists of much different disease.

How cancer does develop?
- When under the influence of certain internal or external factors, cells lose control over normal process of multiplication and start multiplying in an uncontrolled manner, formation of mass of cells forms which is called tumor.
- These fast multiplying cells are called cancer cells.
What are the symptoms of cancer?
- Lethargic and early fatigue
- Frequent fever
- Changes in skin like darkening of skin, changes in texture of mole, reddening of skin, abnormal growth of hair, itching.
- Pain
- Thickening or swelling anywhere in the body
- A sore that does not heal
- Irritating cough and hoarseness in voice
- Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing
- Sudden loss in body weight
- Bleeding or discharge from the body
- Frequent history of mouth sore
